Trainees
Scarf trainees are resilient young people seeking protection and those from refugee and migrant backgrounds who are facing barriers to work. Many have experienced long-term unemployment and for most trainees, Scarf is their first taste of paid employment in Australia.
The young people working front-of-house during this event are trainees in the Winter Scarf '24 10-week Seasonal Program, and will be paid the Restaurant Industry Award wage for their work during this event and other work experience shifts worked at partner venues during the program.

Q&A Panel
Midway through the night, we'll run a Q&A panel with Scarf program participants, trainers, mentors, and partners. You'll hear from a current Scarf trainee and a Scarf graduate, and from some of our legendary, long-time partners Starward, Stomping Ground and Five Senses Coffee. Scarf co-founder and CEO Hannah Brennan will be asking the questions and sharing some of Scarf's origin story (how it all began 14 years ago) and social impact to date - we've worked with close to 350 young people and we're just getting started!
.
'Good Stuff' raffle
And, we'll be running a 'Good Stuff' raffle to help us raise funds for our Spring Scarf '23 program, with prizes from some of our wonderful hospitality partners and friends including Starward, Stomping Ground, Unico Zelo Wine, Worktones, Mount Zero Olives, Punt Road Wine and dining vouchers for two of Melbourne's most exciting restaurants - Julie and Reed House
.
Food
The Starward Distillery chefs will be sending out an array of delicious canapés throughout the evening, and there'll be a plentiful grazing table thanks to our partners Mount Zero Olives and Loafer Bread, and our good friends Lilac Wine Bar, Calendar Cheese and Tom Sarafian. Guests should expect delicious local and international cheeses, freshly baked sourdough bread, top-notch dips and olives, beautiful pickled and fermented vegetables, and hand-crafted charcuterie.
Most dietary requirements can be accommodated; we can certainly cater to those who are Vegetarian, Nut-free and Gluten-free; please note these requirements when booking, or reach out to us via [email protected] with any questions.
